  • Due to the fact that I will not be here Thursday afternoon or Friday because of All-County Chorus, I have asked the Arts Council for an extension until Monday. We have donations of approximately $200. I honestly believe we can do better than that. It would be difficult to believe we gave $1500 last year, and we can only do less than a fourth of that amount this year. Please consider the importance of this organization which indeed brings so much into our schools, community and city. Even if it is a small amount, we can do that, I am sure. Even if you don't pledge anything, I need to turn in your pledge sheets, so please put those in my box. THANKS!! (and remember Monday morning is the very last day!!) Think of it as a prevention~~ from things the kids could be doing! Sheila Moose

The student make-up day is now Monday, February 15 (would have been March 30, but the Board is trying to protect that day of Spring Break). The Rc day originally scheduled for February 15 is now scheduled on March 30. The Rsv day originally scheduled for March 30 replaces the B day that was scheduled for March 31. This allows faculties to vote to allow the use of leave on that day.
  • Many thanks to those of you who have pledged to the Arts Council thus far. We are moving rather slowly along with the pledges, but realize our schedule has been slightly altered! Congratulations to Sherry Allen for giving the first pledge and winning the tickets to the Winston Salem Symphony. Dr. Jones has offered to give 1 hour passes for every $40 pledged. I wish that everyone could realize the importance of this organization, and at least give a minimal donation. Every child and every person is affected by the Arts in this community, whether or not we participate. So, would you consider a pledge in the next few days. Thanks for your support. Sheila Moose
  • Due to changes in the calendar, Amanda Shower's baby shower will be moved from Feb. 19th to Friday, Feb. 26th at 3:00. Please make this change on your calendar

  • We are approaching the annual State Health Plan enrollment period in March with Blue Cross\Blue Shield. This year will be different from all previous years. ALL WS/FCS employees must do an on-line attestation of their smoking status. Until this is completed ALL COVERAGE WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DROPPED TO 70/30. Once the attestation is completed, non-smokers will be returned to 80/20. You will be hearing more about this as the enrollment period approaches. Please remember at EVERY employee, no matter what job the perform, must complete the attestation on-line. There is NO paper option.
  • I received a bill yesterday at the Joint Principals' meeting for all the computers that were left on during the month of January. We were fortunate. Our bill is $164. The bill for the entire system was over $19,000. Originally Dr. Martin asked us to pay these bills and the money would go into the Technology budget. Every teacher and/or assistant responsible for the specific computers that were left on was to pay $1.00 for each night the computer was not shut down. Yesterday afternoon Dr. Martin changed his mind. Schools and individuals will not have to pay. Technology is installing a program that will shut off all computers in the system automatically at 8:00 PM every night. This will save the school system several hundered thousand dollars every year in energy costs.  Although this porigram is being installed, please make it a habit to cut off your computer when you exit the building
  • We have complaints from the Konnoak Community Watch Organization about doors being left unlocked after hours. Mr. Whitaker will check every outside door to ensure they are locked. Please help us with this by checking your doors before you leave as well as windows to make sure your room is secured. I have asked Mr.Ader to secure the cafeteria windows. If you see any window opened, please shut the window for us.
  • Access has began (or trying to begin) for our ESL students.  I appreciate your flexibility in regards to losing the entire ESL department for a month for testing!
 Happy Birthday:
Trudy Smart Feb 3rd

Terri Clark Feb 5th

Optional Teacher Workday

Hello Staff,

Wednesday is an optional workday for WS/FCS employees. This means that most employees are expected to come to work as if the day was a professional day. The professional day on March 29 is now a student day.

Bus drivers and monitors, crossing guards and hourly food-service workers do not come to work on an optional workday. They will be expected to work on March 29.

All other employees are expected to report to work. Employees may choose to take an annual leave day if they wish. If you have questions about whether you are expected to work, please ask your supervisor or read AR 4151.7 on our Web site.

Here are your options:

1. You can come to work. The workday is flexible. As long as you work 7 hours and 45 minutes if you are certified and 8 hours if you are classified. Many will work from 8-4.
2. You can take annual leave. If you do, you must call subfinder. (if you have one).
3. You may use hour passes up to 8 if you have them. If you are using the hour passes, you must email me that you are using them and what the hour passes say(math night, musical, etc,)
4. Take a day without pay. Need to indicate that on sub finder as well.
5. Classified-you can use comp time if you have it. Some of you have a couple of hours which you may use to come in late. If you have less than 4 hours, you cannot take an entire half-day. If you have between 4 and 8 hours, you can takeca half day, but not the whole day. Place the accurate time(sign-in and sign-out) on your time sheet.

Please make sure if you are at school, you sign in. If not, and you do not do any of the above options, you will receive a day without pay.

Please be safe as you make your way to work. Many of the sidewalks around the school are still slick. Our custodial crew has done a great job clearing what they could.

I will be heading to school around 6:30 am if the conditions permit if you would like to call. I will also be available until 8 pm tonight either through email or phone with any additional questions or additions that need to be added to this email.

See you tomorrow!

Snow Day Correction

Hello Team,

Please note the change in the make up day order:

June 9, 10, March 29, 30, June 11, 14.
I mistakenly placed March 29 and 30 as the first two make up days.

Thank you Ms. Miles for discovering this error.

Have a safe day
