Konnoak Briefs(delayed)

I will update the briefs once we know the schedule adjustments to the school schedule. I hope you enjoyed the snow!!

If we are out of school, March 29th is the first make-up day followed by March 3oth if we miss 2 days. This was scheduled to be part of the spring break. I will let you know if anything changes as well as additional make-up days that we may need.

AM Announcements for January 29th

  • Today is day 95.
  • Mission Statement: Konnoak Elementary School will provide a quality education in a nurturing environment that will develop each child’s potential and promote life-long learning.

  • Arts Council Information: The Arts Council Drive will begin on Friday, January 29th. The pledge forms and brochures will be in your boxes at that time. Please take a few minutes to read the brochure as it gives information as to where the monies go and are spent. Please consider a donation to the Arts Council. Everyone can give at least $1.00. Last year our staff gave $1000.00. This amount was given by only 34% of the staff. We won the award for the most increased giving of any other Elementary school. Thanks for considering to assist something that helps our city with two of its most valuable assets: arts and culture. If you wish to have your contribution deducted from your pay check, it will be deducted for 10 months if you are a 12 month employee. Any question, please feel free to find me in Room 112. THANKS in advance for your care and help. Our goal for 2010 is $1150.00 (an increase of $150 over last year!)

6. It was decided today that we will use our Duty-Free Lunch money as we have in the past. We will use it to pay the other half of the 2nd Secretary's Position (as we have in the past), and 9,000 to cover the additional expense of trading for a full time certified position. Once we know how much duty-free money we will be receiving (usually in August), we will look at how many people we can hire (if any) in the cafeteria.


Congratulations to Lauren Deare who was married on January 2nd. Her new name is Lauren Deare McCrary.

Konnaok Briefs January 18-24

1. Today is day 88.
2. Mission Statement: Konnoak Elementary School will provide a quality education in a nurturing environment that will develop each child’s potential and promote life-long learning.

4. The refrigerators will be cleaned out every Friday. All food items that are left in the refrigerators on Friday afternoon will be thrown away. The Pest Control staff has asked that we do this in order to eliminate some of the bugs in the building.
5. Books for the African Book Project can be dropped off in the front lobby. Please encourage your students to participate. You can join them in donating books as well.
6. Our School Improvement Plan passed by a 51 to 3 vote.
7. March 22nd is the scheduled completion date for the 1st grade wing. Understand that this date could change.
8. At its recent meeting, the Board of Education approved a minor revision to Policy 5124, Student Evaluation. The revision appears in Section III of the Policy and clarifies "[s]tudent progress shall be reported to students and their parents , legal guardians or custodians at regular intervals." This change is consistent with recent changes in North Carolina law.
9. Yearbooks go on sale. Early Bird Special: All annuals purchased from Jan 11-Feb. 11 can get one for $13.00. After that, the annuals will be $15.00
10. Magnet Grant update: We are finializing the Needs Assessment for the grant. I will send this by email later on Monday. Roberta Haeffele has volunteered to be the Grant Writer as Sharon Carter will not be able to continue in the capacity.

4. Kim Morrison will be at Konnoak tomorrow to discuss the Magnet Grant with me. I will share where we are at after our meeting. Ms. Haefelle has volunteered to be our grant writer as Sharon Carter has decided to step down from this position
5. The retaining wall has been built to restrict assess to the 1st grade hall. I have asked an approximate time frame that renovations on the 1st grade hall will be completed. When I get this information, I will share with the staff
6. SIT will meet on Wednesday to review the needs assessment. We will share the results of the needs assessment on Thursday.
7. Donna Brown will be putting in the tardies in NCWISE.
8. We did get the PBS grant. Great job team
9. Please do not leave your students unattended in the hallway or in the classroom.

5. CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Haeffele who won a Target Grant for her 2nd grade team for an upcoming field trip

6. The retaining wall will be built to restrict assess to the 1st grade hall beginning Monday. I have asked an approximate time frame that renovations on the 1st grade hall will be completed. When I get this information, I will share with the staff

7. Make sure you are completing your attendance each day and on time.

8. We will be sending home a note to our parents that will ask them that all transportation changes will not be accepted after 1:30 pm. We will also not allow parents to check their child out of school between 2:00-2:30 as this has become a safety issue. Please send any parents who are trying to take their child off the bus route or trying to get their child out of your class to the office.

9. We are working hard to decrease our tardies to school. I will stand in front of the building until 8:20 each morning having parents sign in their child if they are late. We are asking our parents to make sure they bring their child to school by 7:55.

AM Annuncements January 7th

4. Great job Jennifer and Raegen for the staff development on Common Assessments yesterday. I also appreciate all the questions in regards to the way to administer common assessments.

5. Please review the email that was sent yesterday in regards to inclement weather. We may have inclement weather on Thursday night that COULD cause a delay.

6. Parking: We will be able to park near the Kindergarten wing. Since they are working on the 1st grade wing, parking will take place on the hill near the track. A dumpster will be placed there soon. The playground and track will be available to you.

7. Please turn in all RSVPs for Pizza Night to be held on January 12th to Denise by 1 pm today. RSVPs is a new requirement of Title One.

8. Please vote on the SIP today if you have had time to review it. We will end the voting on Monday afternoon. It will be emailed to you later today.

3. Little Symphony of Forsyth County will be at performing in the gym for all K-2 graders starting at 10:15 am. We will make an announcement when we are ready for you to come to the gym.

4. Dr. DJ Jones and Charlene Davis will be on campus tomorrow around 11 am. We will be reviewing the needs assessment that Dr. DJ Jones has created. I will share this with you as soon as the final draft is complete

5. We need to vote on the School Improvement Plan. It has been approved by Title One as well as Charlene's office. We will vote on the plan this Thursday. I will send the entire staff a copy today before noon. If you have any questions, feel free to see Ms. Hill or myself.

6. All certified staff will be involved in a training today on Common Assessments in the media center.
